What the numbers mean

In mg/dL. A random reading of 200 or more is in the diabetes range, especially with thirst, passing urine often or weight loss. To convert mmol/L, multiply by 18: 3.9 mmol/L is 70 mg/dL, 5.6 is 100, 7.0 is 126, 7.8 is 140 and 11.1 is 200.
When to see a doctor
- A fasting reading of 100 or more, or 140 or more two hours after a meal: confirm it with a repeat test or an HbA1c.
- You are often thirsty, pass urine often, or are losing weight without trying.
- You have low readings (below 70) more than once, especially if you take insulin or diabetes tablets.
